Keys For Winning At Work!

Happiness depends on feeling good about yourself. It is based on your relationships and achievements. When your gifts and abilities are developed and utilised through your life’s work, you grow in confidence and strength.

There are KEYS with which we can UNLOCK the treasures of accomplishment and confidence in our work.

1. Accept work as God’s gift, not punishment. “… to rejoice in his labour; this is the gift of God” (Eccl. 5:19; also see Deut. 28:1-14)

2. Recognise God as your true employer. “With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men” (Eph 6:7)

3. Pursue work compatible with your abilities and interest. “Neglect not the gift that is in thee…” (1 Tim 4:14)Paul encouraged Timothy. (2 Tim 4:5; also see Eph 4:11) Solomon also recognised skills. (2 Chron 2:7-14)

4. Learn everything possible about your job. “…give attendance to reading” (Tim 4:13) “A wise man will hear, and will increase learning…” (Prov 1:5)

5. Don’t be a thief. “Redeeming the time, because the days are evil” (Eph 5:16)“Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth” (Eph 4:28)

6. Keep a daily need-to-do list and establish deadlines. “… this one thing I do…” (Phil 3:13) “To every thing there is a season…” (Eccl 3:1)

7. Ask for God’s wisdom during decision making. “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him” (James 1:5)

8. Use criticism to your advantage. In fact, get on the positive side of it: ASK your boss for suggestions and correction: “Poverty and shame shall be to him that refuseth instruction: but he that regardeth reproof shall be honoured: (Prov 13:18)

9. Be honest about your mistakes. “He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy: (Prov 28:13)

10. Be quick to ask for help and information when needed.“…a man of knowledge increaseth strength…in multitude of counsellors there is safety” (Prov 24:5,6)

11. Assist others in their responsibilities when possible. “Withhold not good from them to whom it is due, when it is in the power of thine hand to do it” (Prov 3:27)

12. Project Jesus in genuine love and enthusiasm. Resist the holier-than-thou attitude:“…the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient: (2Tim 2:24)

13. Do not spread gossip.“Speak not evil one of another…” (James 4:11)“He that covereth a transgression seeketh love; but he that repeateth a matter separateth very friends” (Prov 17:9)“The words of a talebearer are as wounds…” (Prov 26:22)“Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles” (Prov 21:23)

14. Project an attitude of forgiveness, mercy and favor. “But the wisdom that is from above is first pure,…full of mercy” (James 3:17)“Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy” (Matt 5:7)

15. Do more than is expected of you.“And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain” (Matt 5:41)

16. Harness anger and control you spirit. “He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls” (Prov 25:28)“He that is soon angry dealeth foolishly…” (Prov 14:17)“He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city: (Prov 16:32)

17. Keep accurate records. “Be thou diligent to know the state of thy flocks, and look well to thy herds” (Prov 27:23)

18. Avoid flattery of others and do not give undeserved praise. “As he that bindeth a stone in a sling, so is he that giveth honour to a fool: (Prov 26:8)“…a flattering mouth worketh ruin” (Prov 26:28)

19. Refuse the bondage of bribery and the influence of intimidation.“A wicked man taketh a gift out of the bosom to pervert the ways of judgment” (Prov 17:23)“Be not afraid of their faces: for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the Lord” (Jer 1:8)

20. Make Jesus your work partner. Keep God-conscious throughout the day as you do your duties faithfully. “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee” (Isa 26:3)
